this weeks job; fire screen and matching poker

This weeks job is coming along nicely so far. It's a double door fire screen with matching poker and tool stand. So far I'm about 22 hrs into it.pic1- screen and poker mocked up, still needs handles attached to doors, screen, hinges, tool holder for poker, and mounting tabs, it will have 6 tabs for tap-cons into the brick to fasten it permanently to the fireplace.pic2- close up of door handles, they'll use a couple of pieces of 1/2" solid round bar to attach to the doorspic 3-finished pokerpic 4-poker handlepic 5-business end of poker. Reply:Here's some build details of the doors. They're made from 1/4" x 1" hot rolled flat bar. Bent on the Hossfeld no 2. They will be double layered, sandwiching the screen in the middle.pic 1- all parts after bending. the 8 long pieces are the door frames, the 4 short pieces are for the main frame.pic 2- trimming the door frames to size.pic 3- laying out the door frames for trimming, the excess is necessary for bending.pic 4- trimmed, welded, and ground smooth.pic 5 - plates for handles, and backing strip for lh door added, there will be a small sliding bolt to hold the rh door shut which will hold the lh door via the backing strip. Reply:The main frame. It's made from 1" x 1" x 1/4" angle. There will be 6 tabs for tap- cons to fasten it to the fire place, the door hinges will be welded to it. pic 1 & 2 - tacked up. the arches match the top of the doors to create the "jamb"pic 3 & 4- welded and ground smooth. there will be screen welded in from the back in the  3 spaces above the arches. Reply:man, thanks for the tips!  I just built a fire poker and shovel for my woodstove.  nowhere near as nice as yours though!  My question is what did you finish it with, or is it just supposed to rust?  Again, NICE work.  I'd be ashamed to post pictures of my work next to that....  however, next time I may steal some of your tricks to come out with a better product!Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
