I don't do much in aluminum, and what I do is all flat plate. But I have a project to do that requires a pie e of tube to go from round to oval. And I don't wanna screw it up too many times. As I cannot find tubing local in the size I need so I gotta order it in via the Internet. What aluminum wound be best suited to forming? The wall thickness is going to be about .065 or so. The part I'm making is strictly for air flow. There will be a slight vacuum on the part. (it's an adapter to allow a 2 blade throttle body bolt on a single opening intake manifold of an engine) any help you guys may have would be great.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.
Reply:I would personally form it out of 3003 sheet. Excellent formability (6061 can't be formed easily in the T-6 state as you will find it most prevalent) and stronger than 1100. Plus it can take sustained high temps
Reply:2 X agree with BCTimberwolf, I would also recommend using a ER1100 aluminum filler rod works well with 1100 or 3003 series aluminum. In a situation where greater strength is required with what you are doing I would consider 5052 H-32.
Reply:Cool guys, thanks a bunch. That's the info I needed. I'll sit down and draw it out and form it from some 3003 sheet. I can then easily chop up the correct size on my CNC plasma.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW. |
