I have been going back and forth with someone on some used cylinders (Craigslist). She wants $250 for what I believe are a 122 (might be 125) and an 80. Also comes with a cart. She doesn't know when or if they were ever inspected. I briefly looked at them awhile ago, but it was dark and I couldn't see anything around the necks, etc. And they seemed to look fine.It seems like $250 is on the steep side, especially when I don't know their background.Any advice or is that a decent price?Last edited by just_some_dude; 09-11-2012 at 02:04 AM.
Reply:well, i'm sure it depends on where you live but i got my 100 used but empty for $80 i believe. i think 250 is a bit steep. i would say 180 is fair if they are in date.however, i would wait for someone here that has more experience.
Reply:You also need to make sure they are her cylinders to sell.  They may be rented or leased from a LWS.  Take the information off the tags and neck to your LWS and see what they tell you.  I agree she is asking too much.Dan D.
Reply:Not long ago I saw an O/A rig on Craigslist.  It was $150. with torch, hose, regs, what looked like a 125 Oxy and a fair sized Acet cylinder on a cart. Needless to say it sold fast."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:I don't know what the prices are were you live, but I would pay about $380 for the pair full at my LWSwww.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:I purchase "customer owned" cylinders (large) for around $100 routinely.I meet the seller at my LWS, have the guys inspect it, exchange it for a full and only at that point do I pay the seller. I have a full, exchangeable, "customer owned"  loaded in my truck before I shell out the cash.In buying cylinders I deal with about 90% of the people who know nothing about them and can easily waste a lot of your time. Beware. Thanks,HoboLincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:I ended up telling them I'm not interested. Oh well, onto the next. ... need cylinders though, my new tig is sitting here and I can't do anything with it.
Reply:Put you a "Want to Buy" ad on CL. Copy / paste some photos of what you want, list the size and which LWS you want to have them refilled..... Finally state what your willing to pay.Have them reply with a photo of what they have.Sort out the spam / scam and you will have what you want in about 2 weeks. Thanks,HoboLincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. Reply:I just don't get all the issues with buying tanks.  Every tank I have ever owned I got used.  No one ever batted an eye at them.  They were just exchanged.  Airgas, Praxair, sims, general air, Colorado Compressed gasses, are just some iLWS in both CA and CO to exchange... I sold a full 75/25. 125 cf for 170 recently and $125 for an empty...  both were airgas brandedTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Just some Dude  where do you live in ohio? I can maybe  get you some tanks.

Reply:Also have a lead on a 330cf for $250. Don't know if that will be to big... will a welding shop fill or exchange those?Last edited by just_some_dude; 09-12-2012 at 04:03 PM.

Reply:Is $250 on a 330cf a good price?

Reply:You usually pay less per cubic foot of gas if you use a 330CF bottle...sometimes a LOT less.
Reply:Likely meeting the person Saturday morn to pick it up. Says it is full. I was thinking of taking a pickup, but I imagine a mid sized car should work with the seats down...
Reply:If you have problems getting exchange, post info here as someone nearby may have a cylinder for swap etc.
Reply:Just picked it up. Has praxair on the top. Guy swears up and down it is customer owned. 330cf. Possible for it to be customer owned? He gave me a receipt of his last fill up.
Reply:found one on CL the other day, also had a paxair sticker and looked brand new, kinda fishy. esp. since he was only asking $100. not sure on the exact sizing on these things but it looked to be around a 250 size.
Reply:$100 isn't out of line. I've never paid more than that for a used cylinder of any size.
Reply:I don't understand this whole buying cylinders thing, lease is less than 50 bucks a year and there are no headaches. The cylinders I do own are MAPP and CO2 and get swapped out anyway. Whatever do what you want it is your money.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I went $250 on to this 330cf cylinder. Tank is full of argon, so $50 I don't have to spend.I was having heck of a time finding stuff locally. Only reason I didn't rent is because people seem to speak poorly of it.
Reply:It really depends on location and how long you are willing to wait for a bargain. I leased one 75/25 cylinder for a couple of years, then studied up on cylinders and gas suppliers and who would exchange what. Now I have more cylinders than I need, but I'll never be out of gas on a weekend and because I exchanged them as I bought them, they are all tested and can easily be sold in the future if needed.
