The Lincoln 175 square wave tig I use at school lost its high frequency start last night. Not the end of the world, but it sure makes welding thin wall chromoly tubing in awkward positions a pita. Can anyone point me in the correct direction on getting this fixed?
Reply:Mine occasionally doesn't "start" the arc. If I completely release the pedal and tap the tungsten to the work piece before striking the arc again, it will typically work. I believe I need to clean and reset the high frequency arc gap in my machine. You might be fighting a similar issue. You can download the manual and schematic from the Lincoln website. I've just been too lazy to work on mine, maybe I'll get into it this weekend.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175
Reply:The manual says to only replace the gap points, not clean them, if I remember right. Maybe they say replacement only due to pitting. Reply:Called Lincoln this morning... Surprisingly pleasant experience. Tech told me to just blow the machine out, especially the air gap. Did that and it is working flawlessly again.
Reply:Excellent!Good thing to know. I guess I should open it and blow it out. I have not done it in the 14 years I've owned one..Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
