I have a 175 Lincoln squarewave TIG and i HATE the torch. Its the one that came with it. the cable is very stiff and heavy. sometimes makes it hard to weld a strait line smoothly. and makes it VERY difficult to weld vertically.I want to step up to a water cooled torch with lighter more flexible lines like i used when i went to school. But i dont know where to start looking for a new torch that will still use my same cups, seals, ect. and still plug right in. and i also want to make my own water cooler as a little project. any suggestions? tips?Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG

Reply:But I feel your pain. I have a #17 torch and #9 and I find myself using the #9 much more even if it means letting it cool more often. Im going with the WP20 when I pick up a water cooler. Here is a pic of the difference in bulk from my 17 to my 9. Now I have a large gas lens set-up and a 12 cup on the 17.Last edited by SR20steve; 10-31-2009 at 06:41 PM.

Reply:since the wp-18v is interchangable with the wp17 that came with my machine, it should plug into may TIG machine no problem. but what about adding water to it? the water cooled torches i used before were 3 flexible hoses, 2 with brass fittings (gas and water). and the other to the machine. so when i plug the new torch into my machine. how do i get to coolant flowing through the torch? i looked for pics of the torch on google, but only found pics of the torch body. if i could see what the hose ends look like, i could figure this out. sorry for the basic questions...Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG

Reply:I just bought a used Bernard cooler to convert my machine to water cooled. Talk about being more expensive that one thought. Most torches such as a WP20 is rated at 250 amps at 100 percent duty cycle which is more that my lincoln 275 can handle and definately more than your 175 can handle. I thought about staying in the 17/18/26 series consumables but the 18 torch is so big and heavy for small intricate work that the difference in consumable cost is worth it.Right now I am looking at the WP225 which is a water cooled torch that has convertable heads for 24, 18, and 20 series water cooled consumables, so it is basically 3 torches in one. I am sticking with rubber due to the vinyl getting soft with heat and welding creates a lot of heat.Cheapest route is to get some new cables, next would be a vinyl water cooled torch and running city water setup, next would be buying a weld tec or cool kit that includes a small cooler and torch set up kit including the torch from IOC or Arc-zone.
Reply:I was just talking with some welding shop dude, seems the valve on wp-18v doesn't act as a regulator, only an on off switch.  That's a bummer.Miller 330 a/bp water cooledI believe in gun control, I hold my gun with two hands.  If you want to know why, click here.Buy American or bye America.
