We got our new HH140 and got a chance to practice some. My son is 16 and never welded before, he is really liking it....and I have welded a few times but not much and its been a long time. Used 0.30 flux core wire. The first 2 are on a piece of 1/4" plate, the last pic is on and old junk garden tiller. Let us know what we can do to improve.?
Reply:Have you been to welding tips and tricks? There is a video where he is stacking beads on a plate, one after another. This is what I did in welding school for the first 2-3 days for 8 hours a day. There are mig welding videos as well. You can get an idea for how you need to run the bead.
Reply:with a machine like that you'll get better results on thinner(1/8") metal..and grind off some of the rust.. see in the first 2 pics it looks like there is caacaa on the beads and not in the third pic where you ground it clean...
Reply:FYI 1/4" is really beyond the capabilities of that little machine. Even with FC wire, 1/8" is about the thickest you will be able to do in a real world situation and get consitant good results. Even to do that, you will need to be running on a dedicated 20 amp outlet and either be running a heavy extension cord or be plugged directly into the outlet..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks guys...I checked out weldingtipsandtricks and bookmarked it for more looking later. We are just learning and it is with folks here that are willing to help that we can become better at it. Like I said my son has never welded and I am a novice to say the least. We only used the 1/4" to run the beads on because that was all we had laying around. We are running the HH140 on a dedicated 20 amp breaker and plugged directly into the wall socket. Thanks again!!! |
