i looked about and not many seem to use 7028.I have 7024 and use it any chance that i get, when position allows.does 7028 lay down as much metal?apart from the storage of 7028 once it is opened is there any reason not to use 7028 instead of 7024?mmmm i might just have to get a 50# er and try some.G
Reply:E 7028 is the high fill iron powder version of E 7018. If you are welding heavy sections over half inch thick, low alloy steels or unknown steels then 7028 is a good choice for flat and horizontal only. Just think of the "20 " versions as a high fill modification. E 7024 is the high fill version of E 7014. If you are happy with E 7024 stay with it. If it ain't broke don't fix it so to speak.
Reply:Thanks, but i know what it is.i was looking more for the difference between it and 7024.i assume that 7024 does not have the hi mechanical properties as XX18?say i made a part of an arm for a 360 degree digger would i not be better off with 7028 than 7024 (position assuming) as the '28 would have more mechanical properties than 7024?or am i missing something?G
Reply:From Lincoln Electric's New Lessons In Arc Welding, 1978 edition-Uses for and benefits of low hydrogen electrodes (Exxx8).Use for welding high carbon, high sulfur or low alloy steels.Lo Hy electrodes yeild welds that have greater resistance to cold weather cracking and cracking in general with these steels, due to their low hydrogen flux content. These steels are sensitive to hydrogen in the weld, whereas mild steel is not sensitive to the hydrogen content.Basicaly, if you would normally weld it with 7018 and you want to fill it faster in the flat or horiz position, use 7028. If you would normally weld it with 7014, then use 7024.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
