Not a work of art or anything, but I am constantly bitching about where our vises are anchored. I dont know why it took my this long to build something like this. Mainly its just a place to run a grinder, which is why there is a throw away chinese vise on it. Took about an hour and I have plenty of w-beam drop laying around. This is a 2' piece of W18x60 with "heavy duty" 5/8" cart wheels. Oh, and notice my wonderful nelson stud handle. Those things have about 1000 uses. Lots of toys.
Reply:That's a killer stand and it looks very stable. Great use of scrap material.
Reply:haha thats sweet, good idea!
Reply:Thanks. I figured it might give someone an idea. Especially for the guys that are limted on space and want the option to have as much as possible mobile.Lots of toys.
Reply:Nice little stand. OK OK, I'll say it, where is the chain on the bottle? You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
Reply:Very nice! I wish I had some of that beam for the same kind of uses. I used an old semi-truck rim, not as nice. Originally Posted by jreynoldsweldingOK OK, I'll say it, where is the chain on the bottle?

Reply:nice vise stand. i gotta scrounge more to find some beam material.you maybe comfortable with your work habits but, they are dangerous to your co workers. those bottles, damaged in the right spot, will go through a 4" cinder block wall like poop through a goose. dave.
Reply:its a nice setup .... is that a big turbo sittin on the table next to the toolbox? looks kinda like the ones my pops has on the stang 67mm ball bearings........i just picked up a piece of ibeam for $5 was thinking about building something like that but the beam i got is only 6" wide but 3 sections = 25' should i use it for that or a press? im debating
Reply:Good eye. That is a precision 94mm sitting on the table. What you use for a base/counterweight is up to you. But I personally would want a larger footprint and a good amount of weight, something in the 100lb plus range. If you have any structural steel fabricators around you, might stop by and see if they will sell you some short iron for scrap price or alittle over. I do when people come by and are nice about it.Lots of toys.
Reply:Great idea, I made something similar except I made the base out of a 36" round piece of 1/2" plate. I like yours better, but I used what I had on hand. I also fixed a receiver tube onto mine so I can swap the vise out for a ring roller.Next time I am at the steel yard I'll be looking for some of that W BeamMiller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.

Reply:Very nice stand. Do you think a couple of triangle stabilizers might help the column base weld? I'll bet that would let you beat on something fierce in the vice. Reply:Originally Posted by brandon75173Gussetts would help attachment at the beam. However this isnt for prying or beating on anything. I have several others that are used for that. No matter how well its attached at the base, you still have enough leverage up top that it is going to be like an inflatable kiddy punching bag when you start wrenching on it.
Reply:All I can say is that things' never gonna fall apart. Nice Job!nice vise stand!!! ...heres a pic of mine I made it a few years back, I put a socket on it so I could adjust the height...really need to clean garage : P Attached Images
Reply:yea i did the socket thing too and it is pipe with many whole so it swivels and raises and lowers but i also have the grinder on the other side ....... what is your "wheel" made of
Reply:one inch galv pipe
Reply:does it have its own axle or something? how easy is it to roll?
