Reply:I have some MK push-pull torches, the old Cobra Gold and Cobra Gooseneck and the newer Python.  The Python is by far the best/easiest to use, however, you need a feeder with a gas solenoid/valve to use it.  The older Cobras had the gas solenoid/valve in the torch.  Miller has their own improved version of the Python now, called the AlumaPro, for use on Miller machines.  Lincoln also sells the Python under their own name.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:I've never heard of it before. Looks like a small oxy-acet rig with an interesting curved torch tip.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Ya apparently you could weld like a tig and cut like a plasma..The video looks good, but im skeptacle. I would definatly like to try it. I remember a few years back of a similar product, but I cant remember the name.dasauto
Reply:That is the renamed Dillon and before that Henrob torch. They work very well after you get used to using it and the odd shaped handle.Charlie

Reply:I have the Dillon Mark III, which is the same torch before it was renamed. It pretty much works as the videos show, but it does take some practice, just like a regular torch does. Its a bit big and clunky compared to my Smith AW1 airline torch or a MECO Midget, but each has its own characteristics. Some people hate em, some love em. I got mine at a garage sale for $50, so I can't complain. I don't think I would shell out the bucks for a new one, but I didn't buy my other torches new either. I am not convinced it uses less gas than my Smith AW1 torch (the predecessor to the AW1A), or any other small airline type torch,  but I have not done any controlled tests. Any small torch with small tips will sip gas compared to a larger torch with big tips on it. For example, my Smith running the small AW203 tip to weld 16ga sheet uses about 3 CFH of each gas according to Smith, but put the AW209 on it to weld and it uses 23 CFH of each gas. Both my Smith and the Henrob (aka Cobra, Henrob, DHC2000, Dillon) use about the same gas pressures with small tips, and since the drill size of the tip holes are comparable, it makes sense they will consume about the same amount for roughly the same BTU output. The Henrob flame is very concentrated though. Don't get me wrong, I do like my Dillon, I just don't like it more than my Smith, and the carnival barker nature shown by some of its salesman gives it a somewhat smarmy image. I have not tried welding aluminum with mine. I have used it to cut some sheet (1/8"), weld with RG45 rod and to braze.Last edited by smyrna5; 11-22-2009 at 02:33 PM.Lincoln 175HD Miller AC/DC ThunderboltSmith AW1, Dillion (Henrob) Mark III, & Smith LittleTorch
Reply:I have one also. It does work great. Still a torch, definately different then tig or plasma. It does cut nice and it does weld nice.  I have welded aluminum with mine and it takes some getting used to but works great. Get some aluminum welding flux from tinmantech.com and some green goggles. I have found that if I put the hose over my arm and hold torch from under it and not like a pistol that it is easier on the arm.Millermatic 252Lincoln 175 plusTA 185tswTA 161stlhypertherm pmax 45Victor torchHenrob torchAn S10 for each day of the week
Reply:It sound like a great tool to have in the arsenal. The kit is a bit pricey though, however I could see its value as a inexpensive and versitile tool for someone just getting into metalart, for the hobbiest or when you dont have the proper current requirements available.Having said that, I admit that Im a bit of tool junkie and would consider purchasing a good used kit at a fair price for my kid. She's displaying a keen interest in traditonal metal sculpture and think it would be a great starter gift for her.Any help in locating one would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!dasauto
Reply:I just bought one with a friend this fall and we have taken turns learning on it and it is all about practice, but so far it is pretty cool.It was worth the money just as a cutter..... it really can cut like a Plasma. You can even attach a roller guide jig to rest it on the piece that you are cutting to make laser like cuts. For welding it is not going to replace a mig or tig on heavy/thick stuff, but for body work or exhaust work it is a VERY versitile tool.
Reply:I use mine mostly for cutting sheetmetal. I dont have connections in my garage for my plasma and so far its the next best thing too it for me!
Reply:Could you cut 3/8 mild steel with one of these Cobra Torches?  Any videos of this torch cutting? I couldn't find one. Only welding.
Reply:Go here and page down to the cutting 1/2 inch steel.http://www.cut-like-plasma.com/info_video_library.htmIt is a bit of a learning process but they do work nice if you follow their pressures and setup.CharlieCharlie
Reply:Their has just been one of these torch kits sold on ebay(very well used I must say!) with its wheel kit for about $150, as I have been looking for one to do sheetmetal fab on the side and want softer thinner welds for workability and have been impressed by the amount of interest in this welder. But a new kit Henrob2000 or Cobra is about $380.00.And this is the basic kit, the curved tip and wheel kit for cutting accurately(?) is extra. The best way to make the decision would be to examine how long it would take for it to pay itself out in saved filler, labor. If all you have is oxy-acetylene the purchase would be worth it.
Reply:What name is the flux sold under??? I would like to try some. What would the max thickness that it would be practical for (.093???) ThanksRobertWilmington, NC
Reply:Flux is here https://www.tinmantech.com/html/alum...g_supplies.php.You really do need the green lense to be able to see well while using this flux though. I have welded 1/4" with it before just to try it out and it works great. Works best to clean the aluminum and smear someflux on your joint then coat your rod and go at it.Millermatic 252Lincoln 175 plusTA 185tswTA 161stlhypertherm pmax 45Victor torchHenrob torchAn S10 for each day of the week
