I made this a few years ago. I made it out of 2 water heaters. A 50 gallon for the smoker, and I cut a 40 gallon in half for the fire box. The handles are the baffles out of the pipes from my motorcycle.( baffles just make a bike quiet, who wants that?!?LOL) They look badazz on a smoker and don't get that hot because they are perforated. The only thing I bought for it was the thermostat, the high temp paint, and of couse the HF casters and wheels! everything else came off my jobsites for free! I prolly spent 30 bucks making it. I made it so the rack would slide out to access the bottom rack if I had to use it.right there is my damper so I can control the heat. This baby is the most sensitive smoker I have ever used! I can raise and lower the temp about 15 degrees just by moving the lid on the stack, the intake on the fire box, and the damper that is almost all the way shut just about a half an inch.and of course you gotta hava an easy clean out of all the ashes for the next smoke!!my next one I build is going to be on a trailer for sure. I've got at least 1,000 hours on this bad boy!Ride it like you stole it!

Reply:Looks good. I built a similar one about 10 years ago, and still get good use from it.I'd like to give you a suggestion. Take the damper off the chimney and just use the air intake damper to regulate your temperature. When it's warmed up and burning correctly, you should see almost no visible smoke. It will prevent creosote from building up on your meat, keeping it from getting a bitter taste. I also installed a baffle plate across the bottom of the cooking chamber to prevent the meat from "seeing" the fire. I learned these things from this website. It's a great source of info on all things smoker related. I can thank someone on this forum for suggesting it to me!Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)
