Reply:WOA!!! sweet line bore set up. did you make it yourself ? what is it ? show me pic of the cone and id sure love to see the cutting head. thanks!
Reply:I too would like to see a little more of your boring machine
Reply:Nice work. I like the concept. Are the cross drilled holes in the shaft for a set screw and fly cutter? What are you using for hydraulic power? I guess that's a gear motor driving your lead screw?Ah.. is your whole power head supported by those 2 diagonal studs? As a machine designer, I would ideally avoid relying on the boring shaft to support any weight and arrange the lead screw to push inline on the back of the hydraulic motor. Maybe make some inverted cones or turn-to-fit aluminum guides to reference the outside of the bushing for a cleaner center reference. I don't mean to pick on your design, you appear to have gotten a fine result.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools

Reply:Nice save and job dppmfg. What hydraulic power unit do you use?  Off the tractor itself?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:a few more picsbravofab  pic of conea few more feeder picsbradblazer   " is your whole power head supported by those 2 diagonal studs?"although you cant tell there are also nuts on the back side of the feeder mount plate. With the two studs and 4 nuts the feeder is being held by the bearing mount plates not by the boring bar. mat maguire  "People are usually suprised at how well these rigs work, and in the right hands, how fast things go."Things would go a lot faster if I could weld better but its getting better.Duane the feeder is ran frum the axuliary hyd on my truck.the reel on top of my truck hooks to the manifold silver thing just behind my sons head.Works pretty good. Thanks for all the compliments hope all enjoyed.
Reply:dppmfg, are you Harsco, or CSX traveling mechanic?Anyway a borewelder hurries things up a lot, here's a link to my BOA 308 (just welding here, for weld and bore the boring bar set-up is used);http://weldingweb.com/showpost.php?p=467339&postcount=9And here is a link to it running; http://weldingweb.com/showpost.php?p=419553&postcount=1Matt

Reply:dppmfg, thanks for the photos and design ideas.I have looked at these, both commercial and home built. The power source has always been my hang up... I don't know why I didn't think about using the hydraulics on the tractor (or truck in your case). So obvious I can't believe I missed it.
Reply:Well the truck looks pretty good dppmfg! Also looks like a different sideboard/something on that stabilizer (been a long time since I've been close to one).I'm outa the rat race now but still re-man some parts used in tampers (one man op, these days).Matt
Reply:Was the rail gear still on the truck when you bought it, or did csx strip it off before selling? Because ive heard there is some money to be made by hardfacing and re-profiling the points on the manganese frogs....Lincoln ac/dc 225/125Millermatic 211 w/ Spoolmatic 100Miller 330 a/bpDynasty 200 dx
