hello im new to the site and also new to tig welding.  I had a millermatic 251 that i just sold and put the money towards a 06 syncrowave 200.  the problem im having is when welding my wife tells me the tvs and oven make a buzzing noise.  the machine is in my detached garage with 100 amp sub panel with own earth ground.  im running 60amp breakers to machine like manual said and have ground straight to ground bar.  this never happened with my mig only with the new tig machine, i would asume its do to hf.  i did a search and came up with nothing hope you guys can help me out so i can get back to hacking away at entry level tig welding.thanks Dan

Reply:Yup, most likely it's the HF causing electrical interference.Miller usually has a section in their GTAW machine owner's manuals about that.If not, here's a section found with a quick search on the Miller website.  Happens to be the owner's manual for a high-frequency 'add-on' box.  The HF interference section is Section 7, on Page 26 (of the PDF, which is Page 22 of the document itself).http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o611u_mil.pdf  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Improve the grounding on your electric panels, both the main panel on the house and your sub panel in the garage by adding an additional ground rod at each location, spaced 8 feet or more from the original ground rod and hook them to the ground buss in the panels with 6 ga solid wire. Also make sure that your existing ground connections are all tight. Your cable TV service, telephone service and electric service grounds should also be connected together to be certain that there is never a voltage difference between them. These new grounds will also reduce light flickering and possible lightning. damage to your electrical appliances. The latest electrical codes now require 2 or more ground rods on new electric service installations and they now also require ground rods on sub panels that are located in out buildings. This will do a lot toward minimizing the problem, but likely won't totally eliminate it. If you want go go further, ground your work bench and your welder with separate ground wires to an additional ground rod. I did all of this and my wife can still hear a slight background hiss in the TV audio when I TIG weld, but everything else, including the internet and telephone work fine now.
