Reply:Did you want to respond to the use of 2% thorium or did you just want vent your frustration. Why is it so difficult to follow the a post as simple as this."2% Thoriated tungsten works just fine".
Reply:your local coal plant probably produces more harmful radioactive fallout than a 2% thoriated tungsten would. There's a surprising amount of radioactive materials in coal.

Reply:Well weldbay,Let me assure you that it's jackoffs like you that lead me to be so "negative".In your just over 30 days on the forum, you've posted nearly 250 times and brought damn little to the table. As Zap has already mentioned, the 2% Thoriated tungsten issue has been discussed hundreds of times. It's not like you just discovered something new and exciting. That horse has been beat to death over and over. A simple search before posting would have shown that to be the case.Frankly, 35 years as a "welding salesman" doesn't mean crap to me. Some of the "worst advice" I ever got was from the guys trying to sell me something.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:Don't be so alarmist over a non-issue. Other examples:If you cross the street on a red light, you will get run over and die. Guaranteed. If you speed 1 km over the limit, you will have an accident and kill many people. If you don't healthy food everyday of your life, you will get cancer and die.Can you say "storm in a teacup"?__________________________________________________ _I could not care less where anything is made. Reply:There is an expert for everything trying to tell us that everything has potential danger. From cellphones to TVs and even the food we eat. Nobody wants radiation poisoning but if you get it, it will most likely not come from the small amount of thorium in a tungsten electrode. As far as cell phones go, there are warnings. I'm sure that if you look hard enough, you will also find someone who says that cellphones are good for you and some study somewhere showed that people who use cellphones have a .00001% longer life expectancy. Experts are everywhere. I guess my point is that if there is a danger in some activity you do (ie. welding), use the proper PPE and do your best to minimize exposure.
