here's a few pics of a couple of skidsteer snowblowers. Parking lots curbs have been eating up the sides. I didn't take any before pic The one blower was so bad it lauched the bearings and the auger was hanging out. I'm thinking about hardfaceing the bottom edge tomarrow. Any helpful hints for hardfaceing? 1/8'' rod run dc? 100+ amp on 3/8 . lay only 1 or 2 beads so it don't break off. Can you run this rod overhead? Thanks, Daye Attached ImagesPound to fit, paint to match

Reply:Rather than hardfacing, you'd be better served by replacing that foot with AR steel.
Reply:Probably better than hardfacing would be to put a wear shoe from a highway plow on the bottom corner that would wear on the curb. Only thing you have to make sure the operator is diligent enough to replace them when they wear out. We put them on our rigs to run against the jersey barriers......Mike

Reply:A 1/2" plate of AR 400 in that area would protect it for a long time.

Reply:We use wear bars on our plows as a standard in the plow industry. They should be easily removable as they wear quite fast. AR does stand up better but if the machine is used a lot and rubs curbs quite often, even AR will wear down.
Reply:One more thing I just noticed. Not sure if it would make much of a difference but the flat bar on edge will not allow the blade to cut close to the curb and will leave a edge of snow behind. A bolted on AR plate would work well.

Reply:ya, I thought there should be a foot or some kind of wear bar on the bottom and something more on the sides. The guy said no. I checked the website nothing. Both these blowers are new this year with less than 100 hours on them! yikes. I sounds like they roll the blower forward and the auger eats the hard pak snow and pavmentThese guys run 30 hours staight and the equiment shows it. After hearing this the hardfaceing is out.. Reply:I think this is the same model blower as the one you worked on. Reply:The foot goes all the way to the front for a couple reasons. The first is obvious, it's a wear part. The second is to keep the auger from contacting the ground. If that happens, your day can go to hell in a hurry. I guess the good news if you do it as the customer says, you'll be seeing it again shortly. More $$$My name's not Jim....
