These I have been working on for a week,  I had to weld them  and pressure test them I had a LOT of trouble with porosity.    The first picture is what I did last time.   The pipe is inside the collar so it should not have any mill scale.  I tried cleaning the two pieces with solvent, it did not help.  The hotter I ran it the worse it was.  Pulsed spray .035 wire 92% argon 8% Co2  inside and outside.    Except the one I tigged.   Some I used a die grinder to get  the porosity out and re welded with E70S06 and the Arcmaster 185 turned all the way up.I tigged ONE for funTig.035 wire all piecesPulsed spray,   Last edited by Fred Sanford; 03-03-2011 at 06:08 PM.
Reply:Next are some 3/8" pipe couplings welded to a bar about 6" wide, 40" long and about 7/8" thick.  I can't show a picture of the part, but the welds are fun.Pulsed spray  .030 LINCOLN wire, 92% Argon 8% Co2  451 inches per minute of wire.  Positioner is turning 3 RPM.    There are about 160 pieces.Settings
Reply:These are new bobcat buckets for excavators,  The customer wants these shanks welded on.  Yes they are huge.   The last time I did these, I Used pulsed spray  This time its MIG to use up some open rolls of wire that were sold to me as "Its as good as lincoln and cheaper"  Never yet!  I am welding the shanks on with some .035 ER70S-2 I bought to try.  Its OK for filling the huge gap using MIG but it will not work on pulsed spray.  I put on a 44 lb spool.  I have done about 40 out of 91 shanks so far and that roll of wire is 1/4 left.  There are 13 buckets with 3 shanks and 13 buckets with 4 shanks.More pictures tomorrow...David R
