How to find the sweet spot???

Tuning your mechine, practice, practice, practice. Reply:I find its like producing a proper tone on a violin, but theres a lot of them and in welding a lot of different situations.Turning a bunch of notes into music is like becoming virtuoso at welding.Commitment, oh yeh I gotta go practice what I'm commited to now.
Reply:Hey Vern,Just a couple additional tips regarding the "sweet" spot. Although voltage/wf is basic to find the "sweet" spot, there are other factors one must take into consideration to maintain that s-spot. Gun angle, stickout, distance, & travel speed also come into play & will affect the s-spot as varying each will alter it. The s-spot is maintained by "consistency" of each variable. I have many sweet spots logged in my notebook for many of the jobs I do, especially with sheetmetal & the classic/show car restorations. Many weldors have immense trouble with sheetmetal because of the thinness & their lack of "consistency". I also do a "prep" practice run with the material per job to get that "sweet" spot optimum so as not to waste time or dealing with "oops". Reply:The sweet spot? lol that's easy for a girl!Actually the sweet spot is when you go into spray transfer...(on my oerlikon it's around 200 amps, and about 24'ish volts) You really feel and hear it when you're at it! (the frying bacon sound)When a weld feels "wrong" you can be sure there is something wrong, welding involves all of our senses...like yorkiepap said travelspeed is involved too, and to my opinion it changes a lot when you change the travelspeed...when you slow down just a tiny bit you immediately drop out of spray transfer!
