I need some input. I need to weld a steel mounting bracket to the top of a cast iron differential housing and all i have is a mig. Can it be done and how should i do it? Any help would be much appreciated.
Reply:It might weld, but it would break at the slightest pressure.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Depends on the casting. Not all castings are cast iron and there are several types of cast iron. Most cast steels, malleable and nodular cast irons are readily weldable using ER70S-3 or ER-70S6 using 75/25 using short circuit transfer. If you do not know what you got, Silicon or aluminum bronze should serve you weld. If it is white cast iron (not likely)- you can forget it. If it is gray cast iron get someone with experience to walk you through it and you will probably not be using mig.
Reply:Diffys are generally cast steel. Welding it with mig will be fine. |
