I am not sure if this is the correct area to post this but since you guys have been a big help I wanted to pass on this 30 page boat trailer construction manual that I found at: http://www.fishyfish.com/trailer.pdfIt list different angle and square metals with weight by foot (just nice to know), goes into every part of picking out what you could use from the choices out there, wiring, brakes, different hitch systems and drawing it up. Maybe it would be nice to have a sticky post pertaining to this subject so we can start a collection of plans, suggestions etc.Miller Maxstar 172 TIG (3ph)) converted to Maxstar 152 TIG (1ph), Harris & Victor Oxy/Act, Lincoln WeldPak Pro100, Radioshack 15w Soldering Iron but I want MORE and my wife says
Reply:It's not a bad over view of basics, but it really doesn't tell much about really building a trailer. It tells you the parts and puts it all in one easy place, but theres really no information that would help someone design a trailer. Most of the basic info, other than DOT parts can be pulled from a Northern catalog. The trailer shown in the drawings is only 2300lb rated. You can get a bolt together 1700 lb one at HF for $400 complete. 600lbs more isn't all that much. My pickup carries more than 2300 lbs daily. While he lists weights for heavy channel by foot, it's not really useful other than to get a rough idea of the overall weight of the trailer itself. Theres no info suggesting channel size to trailer rating. There's also no notes suggesting what sorts of welds and locations like there would be in a set of welding drawings. The assumption is that whoever is doing the work will know all the info required to do this and doesn't have to ask questions on welding. One thing I did note was in there.STEP #5- building the frameOrdinary mild low-carbon steel is typically used for frame members which are assembled using electricwelded joints throughout by persons or firms who are qualified and skilled welders.
Reply:Thanks DSW. I did not have the time to read it in full and I am not doing this anyway but thought it might be helpful. I already have two HD boat trailers and two large anchors sitting on them ... hahaha.Miller Maxstar 172 TIG (3ph)) converted to Maxstar 152 TIG (1ph), Harris & Victor Oxy/Act, Lincoln WeldPak Pro100, Radioshack 15w Soldering Iron but I want MORE and my wife says |
