I know about the dangers of welding with anything with chlorine and the other chemicals in it from another post on here. But what about chlorinated cutting fluid used on a bandsaw? I called the company about it and they said by the time it is watered down that there shouldn't be any harm. What do you guy's know about this stuff? I don't wanna give a company name over the internet and get in any kind of bashing trouble. I have smelled the same coolant smell over the years welding things but iv'e never looked on the bucket to see what was in it. The other post about the chlorine in the brake cleaner made me open my eye's to taking a look to see whats in something before I use it. Any help would be appreciated.Miller Bobcat 250Westinghouse ac arc welderIts better to be hated for who you are than liked for who your not.
Reply:You really should wipe clean any surface as best you can before welding of any sort anyway..I am assuming stick because of your equipment..Personally I like things clean but as far as that coolant goes..It's mixed with water so I wouldn't worry about it.We all have welded over way worse stuff in the past and sometimes it's unavoidable but if you can give it a wipe down then why not?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Its where I work that they use the cutting fluid and its all mig. Thanks!Miller Bobcat 250Westinghouse ac arc welderIts better to be hated for who you are than liked for who your not.
Reply:What I do in every shop i worked and the one im working now--->1st step: i whipe all pcut pieces after each cut (when i cut my own stuff) and don't forget the water inside of the piece if you cut a tube.2nd step: at my fitting table i put a sanding disc 100grit to remove tu cutting edge and by then with the same sanding disc i sand arround the pieces maybe about 2'' long from the edge that will be weld, so after that the its almost dry and very clean at every place where i have to weld.I can do this because i do fancy railling and stairs jobs, i totaly know that you cannot waste time as i do if you work in rough fabrication or structural, a good way to dry / clean /pre-heat the join that need to be weld is to pre heat with a O/A torch flame, but your probleme about smelling the fume from this coolant can't be solved this way...The last advice that seem to be good is to wear those small nurse mask made by 3M, that's the basic safety gear i know, i wear one sometime if i do aluminum or stainless all day long!Calculator > Bevel Square
