I'm still in college for Welding and my teacher talks about the five gallon tool buckets and how to set it up so that your tools wont fall out when you put them in the work truck if it falls over. Can somebody help me out?
Reply:Uuuuh, lid?
Reply:Well yeah but he said something about using zip ties or something.
Reply:why use a bucket when you have a helper to hand you your tools. If your teacher is teaching you how to use a bucket and not welding then you may wont to look into a new school or teacher.

Reply:LOL @ LawsonWeldingLCC!  I know what you'reasking about. I use a bucket and an over the shoulder tool pouch while when working in sawmills, its a quick easy way to carry the basic neccesities from point A-B. Its nice to have to throw your rod stubs/ scrap metal in, and if you have a pail for water incase of fireNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:What you want is one of these:http://www.google.com/#q=bucket+orga...w=1292&bih=435Lots of people make them, for varying amounts of money.  That and a plastic bucket will get you going.  A lid for the bucket makes it handy to use as a seat and keeps your crap from falling out.  Yes, hot stubs will destroy the bottom of the bucket; but they're cheap or often free so it's not a big deal to replace them.  My rule of thumb:  if the bucket seems too heavy, you're probably ready to clean it out because you're carrying crap you don't need.If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, these are very good:http://www.thegangbox.com/p-904-wide...ivel-snap.aspxThey don't make a good seat, but they are tough.  And if you have champagne tastes, then the rolls royce of tool buckets is this:http://www.thegangbox.com/p-337-new-...er-bucket.aspxThat reminds me, if you go with a cheap plastic bucket, tear off the wire handle and pop a couple larger holes in the sides of the bucket.  Get a solid piece of rope and replace the wire handle.  I've been on a couple jobsites that didn't allow guys to use buckets with the wire handles.  Something about them breaking and falling/spilling, I guess.I like these as well:http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...762&ci_gpa=plaBut don't pay $20 for them.  Lowes and Menards have them for $3-$5 each.  I use them to hold bolts, nuts, and washers.  Keeps them contained, somewhat organized.  A lid on the bucket keeps them from running all over the truck; although tipping the bucket over still makes a mess.2 buckets and a mudboard gives you a nice bench for lunch, or a step-up; just don't let OSHA see you doing it.   Originally Posted by CamFoster91I'm still in college for Welding and my teacher talks about the five gallon tool buckets and how to set it up so that your tools wont fall out when you put them in the work truck if it falls over. Reply:The one that WeldingWookie shows can be bought at harbor freight too. It's like 10.00 and does come in handy.   As far as a plastic 5 gallon bucket goes, I cut some PVC pipe shorter than what you want to put in it and pop riveted to the bucket. It works well for the file, level, tape, etc. If your file is longer than the bucket you can hang your hood on it too. Either inside or out.

Reply:I'm a 2 bucket guy. 1 bucket just won't due. Some guys can get away with 1 bucket, others need 3.I generall don't just  flip'em over and stand on them either.  Gotta have a lid snapped on for extra rigidity.  Otherwise, I go find a ladder.  If I'm lifting something heavy, pushing, or pulling, then it's definitely a ladder, lift, or scaffold.  Regardless, I don't care for triggerlocks on grinders, especially big ones.  Your experience is a good example of why.  I had one foreman who stated flat out on day one he'd run off anyone he caught using the trigger lock on the big grinders.  That stuck with me. Reply:Buckets work well but i like my tool bag. Pic 2 are the tools that i keep on the outside of the bag. Pics 3 and 4 are all things i keep inside the bag. Its good to be able to easily carry most of the tools you will need when you have to weld with other peoples machines. Reply:I use a bucket to carry stuff from the truck to wherever I need to work.  Hers a list of some of the things thats in mine.grinder wheels, chipping hammer, 4.5 inch grinder, bottle wrench, first aid kit [b], a rod carrier with a pound or so of  fresh rods, mirror, square, level.I also use a bucket that has a lid on it, gives me something to sit on while Im working on something, or waiting for the helper to get back with supplies or lunch.
Reply:Do they make you buy the Tungsten? Next thing, at least they picked two great books to work with!I forgot how to change this.
Reply:Lawson, I bought all of my stuff. I don't like to depend on people to have what I need so I use my own most of the time.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
