Looking for feedback in light of a debate I've been having with some pipeliners...is it permissable to run a double pass cap, ie side by side passes, on pipe with a wall thickness less than 0.375? This would be per API 1104.
Reply:API 1104 states that cover pass be limited to 1/16" high with the width being limited to 1/16" pass the edge of the bevel. Doesn't state weave or stringers.
Reply:That's right, that is 1104 what u do outside of those guidelines is up to the individuals welding procedures
Reply:2g or 6g cap can have multiple stringers, what would make a 5g any different? As long as it is within the parameters of the code. But this begs the question why would anyone need to run stringers on a 5g less than .375"?Local 597
Reply:1104 is a standard, not a code, its up to the company and the way the WPS is written.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:Im not a Code Welder, but I have seen two weave caps overlaping. Not often, but I imagined it was due to poor fit-up.I prefer to center my rod on the toes of my fill pass. Thats my width of cap for weave. Same for stringers. Ive seen some seriously wide caps, beautiful in appearance, but I gotta believe theres inclusion in them thar....Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120 |
