sick of paying top $ for receiversnorthern tool has a 6' for $14.99 and a 12" for $24.99and im looking at a 2 year old catalogmaking and selling my own Attached Images
Reply:id go for: " 6' for $14.99"sounds like a barganlolG
Reply:yea 6 inches for 14.99....the steel yard would be but a few bucks a foot!
Reply:Ed-receiver tube stock isn't necessarily plain, old tube stock. The outside and inside are sized to allow clearance for the flash weld seam, with insidecorner radii that clear the outside radii of inserts.Suggest you check the clearance and fit of your tubes with a variety of inserts--solid andtubular construction.Drawtite (and probably some others) sell or used to sell receiver tube stock in lengths. Some steel suppliers may offer the same.Blackbird

Reply:It is not standard tube.  2 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 3/16" is close, but a sloppy fit and a little on the light side for me.  I guess I didn't figure $15 was a bad price for something ready to weld on.My name's not Jim....
Reply:a 12" cost me $4.00 to make, what are these clearances do you have #sand do you think i cant buy the steel to make them i have a client that has 20 trailers and want to put a hitch mountedcargo rack on the back Attached Images
Reply:So you are saving the client money.  Are you making money for the fabrication of the receiver.  Ironically with the prefabbed you have to grind off powder coating.  Which is actually cheaper?
Reply:Ed in one of your pict. I see a floor bender, about how thick is your floor / slab?
Reply:Go to the steel house and ask for " seamless tubing" it will cost you though."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:Seamless is the only way to go. I believe most if not all receivers sold are made from seamless tube.

Reply:At the $65/hr I charge, it would actually cost the client more for me to make the receiver.  Prefabbed units would save $$ in labor costs.  But, maybe you like to work for free.ɹǝʌo ǝɯ lloɹ 'sıɥʇ pɐǝɹ uɐɔ noʎ ɟı

Reply:100/hr is a good deal up here in nd.
Reply:$65/hr shop rate is very reasonable. You got to figure in your overhead and other expenses. Just cause he charges $65/hr doesnt mean he makes that much. Carpenter makes $50/hr but he only sees $25 of it on his check cause the rest goes straight to his fringes
