Just built this notcher to do some tubing projects. Looks kinda hillbilly but I wanted to make sure it worked before putting too much time and $ into it. It cuts a perfect notch. I need to fine tune the tracking and put a higher hp motor on it (had an old 3/4 hp laying around). Youtube:VID 00009 20110313 1309 Cletis

Reply:The table is set for 1 1/2 tube but bolts on so would be easy to change. Now that I know it will work I may experiment a little and end up making an adjustable table or better yet the real models have vises which move x and y. That would be cool. The company that made my contact wheel said it would be difficult to make a smaller contact wheel to fit because you only have so much room for the bearings, roller and the compound they put on the roller. You could however go larger but for what I am doing I don't have a need to yet.I think the belt will last a long time. I couldn't even tell I had done any grinding on it.
Reply:I should mention not to look at the welding very close. It's really bad. The welder is a mth old and I've had issues with it since it was new. They are going to replace it for me so I have an excuse for how sorry they are.
Reply:Really neat invention! If you hadn't already thought about making a guide, you could easily make one that hangs off the end of the table with an adjusable fence to get the angles just right. It would be a seperate peice that you could slide left-right similiar to what your doing in the video. I made a quick sketchup of what I'm descibing in "red". Attached Images
Reply:If that's Hillbilly, the suits better be watch out!!!! Nice job! Nice idea on the miter gauge too Mark! I just don't have the aptitude or time to learn a drawing program. Nice for designing stuff like this.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:That's a very good idea. I could adapt that miter gauge to what I have very easily.Cletis |
