Passport Fan comes on

When the Passport fan comes on, should I quit welding? Then wait for it to quit before I start again. I Just finished welding my gates. Got good at fitting them together. Finished a 10' 1 7/8" 4 rail in 1 hour.Will be installing 2 - 10 footers this weekend.Vern
Reply:You need to refer to the duty cycle rating for you machine. That is the best way to determine if you are over working the machine. Most if not all are based on 10 minute time period. So a 50% duty cycle means that you can weld for 5 out of 10 minutes. The fan coming on just means that the machine has reached the preset temp to trip the internal thermostat. Reply:What does the owners manual have to say? I would prefer that the cooling fan run continuously to keep the power supply as cool as possible.
Reply:I really can't watch a clock while welding. Do I use an egg timer?I bought a tile meter for 4x4 driving. I've set it for tilt and climb for my truck. I don't have to watch it. there's a slow, fast or steady beep when getting close to max setting. I know my front or side tilt from what I hear. From the looks of this chart I'm no where near the duty cycle. Welding 14 gage. Seems like the fan comes on after 2 minutes.Vern
