I made a couple of parts for a friend to extend the 3 point connections on his 18hp lawn tractor so he could pull a small plow. The welding was not critical as the weldment is just a shim and he will bolt the part to his hitch.I made this out of 2x0.5 inch bar stock welded together. I ground a little bevel between the pieces I was joining and used my linde vi 206 is set up with 0.035 solid wire, c25. I used what seemed to be spray arc transfer and it went fine.If this were a part that needed more strength in the weld, I would have made a much bigger bevel. The miller weld calculator on line says to use 0.045 wire and spray transfer on metal this thick. Does that assume a single pass weld?Could I weld a thick bevel with my setup using multiple passes with .035 spray instead of a single pass. I don't think my welder woud spray .045.thanks
Reply:In reality you aren't welding 2" material, only 1/2". 2" material would be something like 2" x 6" solid stock. .035 is usable for 1/2" thick welds..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
