Hello everyone.  I would like to buy a generator to use for steel/stainless steel/aluminum tig and also mig welding in the field.  I have a miller 180 mig welder and planning to get a miller diversion 180 ac/dc tig welder.  What kind of generator would I need to buy to be able to use both welders for both ac/dc tig welding and mig welding. I would like to put the generator in my van and be able to do mobile welding, both tig ac/dc and mig. Would I need a generator both ac/dc or not? Thanks everyone
Reply:The generator just needs to put out the same current that your wall plug provides.  I'm not familiar with those welders, but if they're 220V, you need a 220V receptacle with appropriate amperage -- look in the welder's owner's manual.  The generator will provide AC power.  The welder converts the AC input to DC internally if necessary.Last edited by tbone550; 12-12-2012 at 09:49 PM.
Reply:I'd go a little bigger on the generator than what they claim on the box, most are a bit optimistic on their power output and you may need to run some lights or other stuff in addition to your welder."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
