Last week I got sent out on a field job to weld an extension onto the stainless access hole of a big concrete tank that is under construction.(Click images for larger view.)Here's the hole with the 1/4" thick SS ring next to it:For the weld prep, the specs called for a 1/8" deep v-groove on the inside of the tube/ring:Root pass was done autogenously (no filler):Hot/fill pass:Cap pass:Specs also called for the weld to be ground flush (I also smoothed it with a flap-disc):Here's my work area right after I finished the welding and grinding:I had to keep everything right up against the wall of the tank, out of the way, because the concrete guys kept driving their man-lift things around the tank prepping the outside for the next coat of concrete.Visit Tensaiteki.com

Reply:Looking at what quarter can be seen it looks like that could be a pretty good sized tank if there's any height.
