acetylene cylinder questions???

I just bought this acetylene cylinder off CL. Its about 38" tall and black in color. I guess its a # 4 size (100 cf?) I do not see any company markings on the cylinder, but the cap has "AIRCO" stamped into it. My question is should I have any problems swapping it out at my LWS? What should I expect?
Reply:That's a fairly typical "owner" size cylinder and I wouldn't think you will have much trouble exchanging it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Those $5 lessons in life aren't too hard to swallow.Why didn't you meet the seller at the LWS to verify you could exchange it?Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.

Reply:I'm pretty sure the first tank I bought had "AIRCO" stamped in it too, and I had no problem swapping it out. Another time I went to look at a cylinder there was a sticker on it with a company name and a serial number...gave them a call on the spot and they told me it was a rental. I'm guessing you won't have any troubles.

Reply:went to Airgas the other day and exchanged it! guy did not even look at lol.  I just backed up to the loading dock and he unloaded out the back of my truck and put a new one in
Reply:By Airgas swapping out the cylinder , they are smart enough to know that when you or your friends need bottled gasses they will come to Airgas.They GET it!

Reply:dtrain, you don know about Acetylene safety, right? If you transport the bottle on its side, you need to stand it up for a few hours before cracking it open. Sorry if you know all this, just making sure.I learned the hard way years ago.__________________
Reply:I took an Acetylene in to Airgas, asked the guy on the dock as I was unloading what about this one?He looked at it and said "Are you getting more Mig gas and Oxygen? I siad yes, He said he would take care of it. I went in and paid to come out and find an extra Mig bottle in the truck!Sometimes it pays to keep the questions on the dock!Disclaimer, one of Airgas comptetitors won't do this.
Reply:Because the acetylene is stored dissolved in acetone. You don't want to get any liquid acetone up into the valve area where it can get into the regulator, as it can damage the regulator. If the tank does go on its side, be sure to set it upright and let it be for awhile before putting it in use.Gas safety is one of my pet peeves. I wish more folks would share and understand how this stuff works.
Reply:In my area they don't rent bottle below a certain size so purchasing a smaller bottle on CL is always safe.
