I'm using .045 Kobelco Wire, turns out it's a fast freeze wire, works great for stringers but pretty frikken "impossible" to overlap the weld beads together to make it look like one nice weld bead on the cap, it all seems to droop down.So I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with the wire and what kind of techniques I should use on the Horizontal Cap without making it look like **** LolI think I'll try weaving it..I know probably not a good idea considering it's a fast freeze wire but meh my CWB is on wednesday and I'm kind of running out of options.Any help would be awesome, thanks.
Reply:A single pass cap horizontal???   For a test I suggest stringers.  There is nothing in the code requiring s certain number of passes or type of cap as long as you put in sound material.  The cap must not be higher than 1/8 above the parent metal.  You are not required to do a single pass cap even for flat and vertical.  It is your choice.

Reply:true about running stringers.seems like you already are but you want to run a slightly wider weld bead so you don't have to run as many passes. Keep interpass temperature low especially on the cover pass those suckers will heat up, causing the cap passes to drop or be to liquid.   I would run around 550-650F max on my interpass for the cap. slow? yes, but worth it, also prevents flux from overheating and baking to the plate. Also as you know keep your torch angled up towards the plate and just wash down briefly to fill out the bead. It should be a very uneven weave most of the heat and angle will be pointing up.about the only pointers I can give, on the cap you probably will be limited on the weave. If it's fast freeze that should help with making a shelf though.

Reply:Just in case you guys were wondering, yes. I did let it cool lol.... I'm not even running it that hot either..only 25Volts 250 wirespeed..
Reply:I do a "J" laying on its side motion then for that last one a straight stringer to prevent that nasty undercut.  You have to get rid of the undercut in order to pass.  I get the odd bit when I stack them up like you are doing... maybe you are weaving too high and are not able to fill the upper area.
Reply:The bottom two stringers could have flowed out more, too cold.Maybe keep the heat [25 volts], turn down the wire speed and push the torch.Last edited by transit; 03-08-2010 at 09:34 PM.
