I have a thin gauge project [28 ga], 0.024 wire is going to be too hot, is 0.020 solid wires and tips available? Looked all over the net, no luck.
Reply:AFAIK and have seen, 0.023/0.025 diameter GMAW wire is the smallest diameter.Thinner than that and you may just be looking at GTAW instead and doing a fused joint with no filler ala the guys who have welded razor blade edges together. Then again, someone here (might have been Brainfarth??) did an aluminum drink can to some aluminum plate with what I though was some -huge' filler for the thickness (thinness? ) of the soda can. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Tig is out of the question for a one time project. My miller manual says that wire sizes go 0.045, 0.035, 0.030, 0.025, 0.023, 0.022 and 0.020. However Ive never seen anything smaller than 0.025-0.023, I would expect that 0.020 being listed is also available. Could it be that size wire not being popular fell to the wayside?Havent tiged [Heli-arced] in years. http://www.millerwelds.com/resources/calculators/http://www.esabna.com/us/en/educatio...-selection.cfm
Reply:I think it's a matter of the welder can accept that size of wire, but no one makes it/uses it. Just googled for it and seems a lot of wirefeeds can do .020....but there aren't any shops that carry it. I would wonder if it's because the wire wouldn't be able to feed well without a push/pull gun or spool gun.
