Tube bender die.....some welding

Here is a die I machined for my bender. It is a 1.25" die for my JD2 model 3 bender. I have several dies but decided to make this one myself. It is made of 8620. Reply:Having a mill and lathe would definitely be a life saver when a rush job presents itself and you don't have the right set up. What do you think your actual cost to make these would be if you were doing it as fill work during a slow period? If you don't mind my asking.

Reply:Manually machining these is NOT the way to do it if you wanna turn any kind of profit. Took me about a day to turn one out.Remember, you have to have the right tools to even turn the concave radius. I built a quick change tool for my tool post that allows me to turn any radius. I can post a pic of that later tonight but there is no welding at allI am not interested in making these dies for anyone simply because I have too much on my plate right now. Reply:Jack, I would like to see your radius turning tool.  I have a small lathe and mill that I would like to add a few items like that to.  Seems lilke the more tools ya got, the more ya need to get.  My wife thinks I'm queer for the tool man, but it aint so.  I just like all the shiny things he has on his truck!!!!!BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Here are a few pics of the radius cutting tool used to cut the die(s). It has a small insert carbide cutter that is hard to see. The cutter adjusts in and out to give the desired radius of cut. There is also another radius cutting tool I will attach here and it can be used to cut either concave or convex. It utilizes 1,ooolb rated tapered spindle bearings. The tool mounts to the compound on my Nardini Lathe and is very rigid. Hope you like the pics.
