Well, I was able to content with the stock stand for 2 days before it completely drove me mad. I got started on a new stand. 1x3x.125" rec. tubing, 2x2x.25" angle iron. I'm most likely going to copy 7A749's (here)cart as far as receiver hitches for stock stands go.My tig welding skills still have a long way to go. I'm on my third 80cf tank so far. Settings/specs were: 100A max, 1/16th ceriated tungsten, 3/32" er70s2 filler. I still need alot of work to do, but it's come a long way. I need to trim the 2x2 angle down to lower the machine about 3/8", mark and drill the final bolt locations on the tabs, then weld nuts to the backside, then make the base. I cut out a small template out of 6" 1x3 1/8" strap to cut the receiver tubing holes evenly on both sides of the tubing. I also cut some 1x1x.125 angle and 1x.25" strap to make a "girdle" for the motor mount plate in the mean time to help cut down on the flex it has. Something similar to |=| with the bolts going through the angle. The .125" thickness of the angle is just enough to clear the "dimple" in the motor mount plate for the flat stock as well. I'll update when I get some pictures and some more work done. Reply:Dude, you did waaaaayyyyy better than me!!! The first day the darn thing fell over on me and dented the capacitor box and cracked the capacitor. I wuzzzz PISSED, started on a 2 drawer file cabinet stand with enclosed flood cooler right then. Had to wait 3 days for another start cap. Did you do the 4x6 Yahoo groups recomended truing and adjusting procedure? Makes em cut 100% better and blades last a good bit longer too. Quick and easy and once done it really helps. Great start on the replacement stand.I'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys? Trade?

Reply:I never finished it . It's actually been on my list of things to do, but I purchased a Milwuakee dry-cut and the bandsaw has been sitting (ever since chucking my last Morse blade). I found I played with the bandsaw more than I used it, though. I was making cross-section cut-aways in anything I could find (including my old air impact). It turned into a hobby I did make a nice cut-away of a turbo for my desk though Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:Nice progress, I got the same saw about 6 months ago and finally fired it up for the first time last week. I can't believe they actually ship the thing with the supplied stand. What a piece of junk.It cut like crap (vertical was way off) until I played around with the bearing adjustments and cranked the blade as tight as I could get it by hand.I replaced the stock blade with an 18tpi Rigid blade from HD and its not too much better than the stock blade. I grabbed a HF bimetal blade (the USA made one).Are you going to make an extension table? I was trying to cut a 40" piece of extruded Al and had to rig up a half-*** shelf in the back to hold the end of the piece up level with the table surface.ESAB Heliarc 252 |
