lincoln 175 hd good deal?

Hey I am new here and have been getting a lot of great info and decided to join. I am currently working on a jeep and I am going to replace the floor pans and patch a couple small areas. I might in the future build a bumper for it. I have been checking craigslist periodically and found a Lincoln. It's a weldpac 175hd brand new never used. Comes with everything including a brand new gas bottle. I am not sure about the sizes but its about 2-3 foot tall. He said it was full. He claims he bought it all 3 years ago with the intent to learn to weld but never did. He also said he had a harbor freight helmet with it that's new in the box. He said he would take $500 for all of it. I thought I would see if he would take $450. Do you guys think this is a good deal? Reply:Looks like a brand new one still in the box sold on ebay back in october for $425 plus $25 shipping.  The bottle adds some value, not sure about the harbor freight helmet, never used them dont know if they are any good.  I would say $500 is probably on the high end, but based on the one that sold on ebay probably in line if brand new and includes a full bottle.  Offer him $400 and all he can do is say no.  Offering lower gives you the option to come up.
Reply:What comp C said.   As far as the HF helmet?  I have one...... Reply:2-3' cylinder says 60 or 80 cf cylinder tops. My supplier sells filled 60 cf cylinders for $115, and filled 80 cf cylinders for $160 to give you a price comparison. I can usually find used ones for at least 1/2 that cost if I'm patient even after I get them filled. I'd definitely hook up the reg and see what the cylinder reads. Expect it to read 2000-2400 depending on temps and the cylinder. A very slightly leaking valve will kill a cylinder over a long period of time. Add in a fill cost and I don't think you really saved much at all over new with warranty.I'd agree with everyone else the price is high. $400 sounds closer to what's probably on the high side of fair. Too many guys today think just because it was never used, they should be able to get most of retail from it. In reality most used stuff usually sells for 50-60% new in this economy even in almost perfect condition..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:May just be me, but I tried my dad's Lincoln 175 on sheet metal and blew holes in it bigger than the holes in my Gdad's long johns....pretty big holes. Now, my new to me Lincoln 100HD with a gas bottle ( recent $300 CL find ) does sheet metal alot easier for me.
