I have lots and lots of this 3/8 rod lying a round and I am trying my damdest to use it up. pic1 hallway light with a hinged face so I can replace the bulbspic2 obligatory closeup of weld beads. pic3 installed. (cant really see the glass, but is is pretty cool) pic4 bathroom vanitypic5 closeup of the shelfThe hall lights were bade by just welding 3/6 rod around a ply wood box to the desired height. then some gate hinges, mounting strips, and I just used Henry's clear roofing sealent to glue the glass in. They are pretty heavy and coincidence would have it that they are exactly 16" long, which makes it easy to catch some rafters. Originally I was gonna use them for picture frames and they sat in the garage for about a year until I thought of something better for them. The Bathroom vanity is made out of 9/16 and 3/8 rod with a little bit of 3/16 plate for the shelf. I mounted it with 2 really long screws that catch a stud. (you can see 1 in pic 5) painted it all with penetrol. (I'm still evaluating it, but sofar it holds up well) more next post.... Attached Imagesars sine scientia nihil est
Reply:Our house came with a horrible fluorescent light fixture for the kitchen and I've been meaning to fix it for years. pic1 starting building new fixturepic2 after realizing it was too heavy to hang overhead, it is now artpic3 plan B lighter fixturepic4 1/4 rod edge for glass to sit onpic5 installedThe first attempt I build of of 9/16, 3/8, and 1/4 rod with random ball bearings thrown in for good measure. It would have been gorgeous but as I was mounting it, (1 person of course) it slid out of the hinges I had on it and crashed to the floor damn dear killing me. With the glass I suspect it weighs north of 70# and I didn't feel safe hanging that above my wife and kids. Anyways I built another out of 1x1 tube and some 1/4 round to hold the glass. Still heavy, but much more manageable. B Attached Imagesars sine scientia nihil est

Reply:awesome. I also envy the artisic ability. If someone gave me a sketch of these, I could make them. But without that, I just sit around here hoping someone comes to me to build something. The mirror is very cool. I may copy that for the wife.Weldanpower 225 G7Ironworkers Local #24
