I am wondering if anyone here has designed or built a security box for a compact trail camera . Currently have a Bushnell model and one from scoutguard . Would like ideas to make a model that would mount to a tree ( using lags possibly ) . The box would need to be bear proof as well ( I bow hunt them in the fall ). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Reply:Farmer, Funny you should ask this, just yesterday I built one out of schedule 40 PVC. It is not for a trail camera, it is a pinhole surveillance camera with a self contained DVR. It will go on top of a 15' light pole I am putting together. I used 1.5" PVC (the camera is 1"x1"x4"L) with a cap on one end drilled for the pinhole, and a screw on cleanout on the other end for access. Two holes on the bottom, one for audio and one for the mini USB power supply, which will plug in on top of the pole light.ThenI used a piece of 3" PVC sawed in half for a hood/visor. I cut the end at an angle and mounted it by attaching a 1.5" conduit hanger to the 1.5" and running a short bolt thru both, it allows for about 1/2" space between the hood and the camera tube. I bent a piece of 1"x1/8" flat into a "U", drilled it and fastened the hood to the top and the bottom will bolt to the top arm of the pole light, allowing up & down as well as rotational aiming.Normally I use CCTV cams wired to a DVR, but I am experimenting with these portables for some rental units I own, where I can't have any equipment.I will post pics later, it's up on my roof right now being tested!Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:Post your results with the camera too if you would be so kind. I want to set a couple up around my shop.
