This is my first time to weld on cast aluminum. A customer wanted me to modify his intake. Didn't Turn out as nice as i would have liked. Not because it was cast, I couldn't even tell a difference. It would have been better if i made one "swoop" across the top instead of meeting in the middle. Live and learn.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com

Reply:Thanks, It is an Australian boss mustang intake. Guy said it was an arm and a leg getting it here. What was weird is that when he came to pick it up he looked disappointed. I made the angles just like he wanted. I think he was wanting the flange square (he didn't specify). But the way the cut was so tear drop the square would have been huge with a ton of excess material. It sucks, I pictured him being happy with it, saying something like "awesome" or "cool", but even before he came I spoke with him on the phone and he said "i'll be there in a minute, if its good i will go to the ATM and get some cash.". He was real quiet just looking it over with a disappointed look on his face. i asked what he thought and he kinda gave me the shrug with a "meh". maybe thats just how he is. But he did pay so it could be worse.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com

Reply:Zap will like this thread cause the kitty in the first pic is givin it the sniff.  Lots of times our best efforts are wasted on folks like him, dont sweat the lack of enthusiam and concentrate on better communication with your customers to insure they and you understand each others expectations.  The weld looks great, better than I expected, but mounting the throttle plate is gonna be problematic due to bolt hole location and proximity to the EGR mounting surface.  Jus' my humble .02BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Welds look good!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Customers like that aren't worth having... part looks fantastic, I would have been stoked to get that.
Reply:Thanks. You all are right. Because I'm just starting out on my own, its hard to turn down jobs. But the goal is to focus my business on aluminum (plus some steel things like headers, cages. You know, the stuff not everyone does), Hopefully it will leave me with a higher end market. I have turned down a couple guys who wanted me to modify their motorcycle frames. And don't even try to compete in the fence/gate market. Don't want to offend anyone but in Houston there are probably a million Mexicans with mig welders just dying to build you a fence at rock bottom prices. In fact I bid a big gate/fence job recently that came out to be three times as expensive.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com
