I want to construct a light pole on my property, 13.5 feet high with a lightweight flourescent residential street light head. I will also mount a small motion activated surveillance camera on top of the arm. I want to use 2" square tube. My question is, what gauge will I need so the pole does not move around in the wind? I want minimal movement so as not to trigger false motion recording. I have some 14 gauge but in a test I did a 14 foot piece flexes way too much for my application. I am wondering if 10 guage will do it.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:If you have plenty of material maybe do something like this pic. A sandwich affair. Kinda ignore the jib boom and look at the light post. It's 18 feet and all three inch box but the concept could be the same regardless of height or tubing size. Just a thought.
