Hello people, Super welding newbie here, wondering how difficult it is to weld a 1" weldolet onto 2" sch 40 pipe. I guess what i mean by that is, do you need to be a experienced welder to do this, are there a lot of tricks or is it straight forward, there will be hot water running through the main, I've been welding 6' coupons with 6010 with probably 40 hrs of pipe welding class under my belt. ( just a baby...i know), i've done all positions except 6g, but never used 7018.  I've never taken a cert test, teacher says i do pretty well, i know it's tough for you guys to gauge my ability. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated.Thanx
Reply:One simple test you can do is weld a piece of that 2" pipe to a flat plate then get a little bit of diesel and put it in the pipe.  Let it set for a couple of hours and then check for leaks.  Also I think you should start running 7018 because on what you are trying to do I'd be using 701 3/32".
Reply:cut your hole in the 2" pipe the exact inside diameter of the weldolet. Clean up the edges and i personally use a 3/32 or bigger gap depending on weldolet thickness. 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap provided this is mild steel.
