front bumper opinions

i have a warn winch bumper center section on my truck and i want to finish it out to look like a bumper(imagine that). would 1/8" sheet steel be too thin? tom
Reply:Watcha plannin on hitting with it? LOL. Just kidding around. I know lotsa guys with winches , most of them never use them. Also, I like the ideea of making a hitch plate on a hitch mount  so it can be used from the front or the rear, maybe even from each side if you added under panel recievers there. I dont think I ever needed to winch myself further through a ****ty spot, but a couple of times trails broke out and two wheels were dangling and a bunch of times I coulda got out easier pulling myself back. But I have a highlift and a couple of chains so...............course, missouri aint arizona so none of my two cents worth may mean a thing......MLM
Reply:ive used the winch to pull stumps out of the yard and to pull junk onto my trailer. i have a ball hitch made up to hook onto the clevis mounts on either side of the winch. so i hook the trailer on the front of the truck and winch away. would rather have a dedicated winch on the trailer but.... tom
Reply:....so mount the winch on the trailer. 1/8" for a bumper will look fine, and probably function as it should, crumple in a crash. If you wanted a bucket for a tractor, than 1/8" is too thin. Reply:i built a bumper for my truck i used 3/8 steel coming from the frame and then built a skeleton with 3/4 od pipe to make the body shape and skinned the hole thing with 11ga steel and then painted it. It ways 87 pounds a 4x8 sheet was about 60 dollars. I have a 12000 pound winch built in to it and works great
