Brought a new toy (piece of equipment) home yesterday. This is really the culmination of a welding project.  I recently replaced the wooden floor on the trailer with 11ga diamond plate.  I'll get around to organizing the pics, and post the project from start to finish, but it's a bit busy here right now.Y'all might be interested in the ramp design, which I threw together around 13yrs ago, but pics won't be up till I unload the tractor.  Didn't have time to take pics when I went to get the tractor. She's a new-to-me Case 1370 with around 130 drawbar horsepower  I'm updating my tillage methods, and getting into larger power and larger implements. For you diesel fanatics..............the mill under the hood of the F-350 is a 460 GAS ENGINE  Don't need no steenkin' diesel to pull a load Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Nice stuff there samm..I had a '89 F-250 with a EFI 460 in it and besides the mileage..It was and still is a very strong truck..Currently a plow truck in N.H....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

So what's the ol' AC(IIRC) gonna do? And is Oliver gonna stick around to do all the lifting?                                            Mike

Reply:Originally Posted by ChuckI'm pretty sure he meant on the drive axle of the truck, not the tractor.  If you load up a trailer like that and don't get enough weight on the truck then you are going to have a heck of a time getting stopped.  Truck brakes will lock up and the trailer will push you.  Been there..done that and learned my lesson.
Reply:Amazing... UR home safe FSamm right  So no biggie.  I darn near twisted a receiver hitch off once using my  car trailer and parked the tractor way too close to the front.. different thought but exactly the same.  Home is home.It is a nice big Case/IH tractor, wheel weights and all.   To me? it looks a little like an AC in the front sheetmetal.  You might stock up on that Chinese Red paint and some glossy black.  Course then it will be a show tractor and not suitable for real work anymoreAz hay>  $12 a bale and climbingGlad to see UR aok.. I'm ready to see  a stick demo or two. Reply:Thanks for all the comments.  I enjoy reading them.  Been a while since I've had time to post stuff. From what I understand.......If the combined(Truck and trailer) vehicle GVW is 26,001lbs the driver must have a CDL.  However, if the truck and trailer are farm plated, you can operate it within a 100mi radius without a CDL, provided you have a DOT# on the truck.Well....................  I gave up my CDL sometime in my early 40's (yeah stupid, I know, still dunno why I did it, just figured I didn't need it anymore).  And I haven't gotten around to getting a DOT # for the truck.Otherwise, all the axle weights are legal.  And the trailer weight is legal too (GVW on the trailer is 24,000lbs).As far as the axle weights............ I moved the tractor forward until the truck was down on the overloads.  When the springs compress enough to put them on the overload leaf I figure I got enough weight to keep the trailer tongue on the ball.As far as braking goes.............  I have about as much chance as a snowball in Hades to lock up the brakes on the truck with this kind of load  It's a wee bit heavy  So I generally try to spare the suspension on the truck, while having enough weight for adequate pulling traction.  The truck is rated at 11,000 GVW.  I was about 2000lbs shy of that rating the way it was loaded.  You gotta remember that when loading, it's an eyeball thingThis is certainly not a very safe way to pull.  The large amount of weight on the trailer axle tends to make things very squirrely.  A very steady hand on the wheel, and driving a couple of vehicles ahead, are required.  It's not a lot of fun.  I wouldn't reccomend it to someone who hasn't really worked with larger vehicles and larger loads.  It is dangerous.Mileage was around 6 1/2 mpg combined.  Empty trip out, loaded trip back.  Not terribly bad for a gas rig.  You gotta consider the price of fuel (diesel/gas), and the entry cost of a diesel 1 ton.  I feel that lower cost of the purchase price of the truck, and lower maintenance costs, outweighs the advantage of diesel for my use.  I don't pull a load like this every day.  You gotta remember, I shelled out the sum of 2500 for the truck  I like to get my money's worthBy my calculations, and looking at various spec sheets, I believe the tractor weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 15k.You do what you gotta do, and enjoy the day when you arrive home safe and sound.  Some people jump out of planes for an adventure, or do drugs.............I do this for an adventure I guess"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Originally Posted by mla2ofusNo, I was referring to the amount of weight already ahead of the tlr. axles which was probably sufficient for weight on the truck axle. I don't think Samm is a stranger to loading semis.                                                      Mike
