Combat Jump Space Saving Combo TIG Cart and Grinder StandIts been a while since made my combo mig/plasma cart:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ht=combat+jump...And I have been wanting to build something to make working with my Maxstar 150 tig easier. My goals for the cart:1.  All casters.  No "pushing back and forth" to maneuver it into a tight spot. 2.  Tall and vertical, not short and squat.  I don't have much room in my shop, and I already have enough shin bangers. 3.  "Use what I got".  Don't want to have to go buy much to make it. 4.  Integrate a foot pedal bracket and cable hooks. 5.  Bring the grinder to the cart.  I tend to grind a lot of tungsten. 6.  Add filler rod storage (this is still in work). 7.  Have a nice reel to store the extension cord. 8.  A tray or box for consumables (also still in work).9.  Its got to have a handle or grab bar.10.  Its got to be painted Miller Blue. The legs and vertical is 1" square steel tubing, .120 wall. The welder tray is 1" angle, with a chunk of some (I think) 3/8" welding into the center to attach it to the vertical piece. The tank bracket is a piece of (I think) 4"  channel with some tabs welded to it to support the chain. I bought 3' of twist link chain from Home Depot, and some 1/4 20 hardware, which attaches the tank very securely. I made a tray for the pedal from about 14 gauge.  The pedal is functional as-is in the tray for quick jobs, or can be removed. I bought that small grinder from Harbor Freight for 30 bucks and mounted it on top.  I'll let you all know how it works out. The casters are single bolt 3" locking from Home Depot. The hose rack is from OSH. Yes, I know its a small gas bottle.  "Use what you got". I also have some black PVC that I'll make filler rod holders with.  My plan was to drill holes into some 1/8" aluminum sheet that I have, but the Harbor Freight hole saw I bought didn't work out.  I'll post photos when I add the rod holders. So, it rolls great, and has no tendency to topple.  I put this together in a day. Tools used:16 year old 4 1/2" DeWalt angle grinder that won't die. Crooked cutting 30 year old Jet 4x6 horizontal bandsaw that probably should be dead. 1 year old Miller 211 mig. Some clamps, and magnets. Reply:Very nice! Thanks for sharing.
Reply:Nice cart.We are on our way to being farmers! Our site is always under construction so check back often for updates.  http://www.philosophyfarmstyle.com/
Reply:Nice.  Not what I expected. You might think a bit about all the grinding dust right at the machine though. You do realise we have to dock you points for using the mig to build the tig cart don't you?  .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:agree on the dust..i would put the grinder elsewhere..
Reply:DSW (LOL) - Well, with this nice cart, I'll have no excuse not to tig!weldbead and DSW, good points on the dust.  I could hang the grinder off the back, over the cords.  Or something completely different.  I hadn't thought about the dust.Miller 211 MIGMiller 375 Extreme Plasma CutterMiller Maxstar 150 STL TIGOxy-Acetylene torch
Reply:the 3 wheel thing is cool to have it stable on any ground, but also will cause it to tip over pretty easily too, gotta be careful pulling the leads on that, but it does look really nice as long as you stay aware of how easily it can tip over & crash the welder to the floor. 4 legs would rock more on unleveled ground but still be much more resistant to tipping over. not looking to criticize, just stating the obvious I guess, but it does look real nicemiller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:Very cool. That bottle is wayyy to small for my taste. Is that a 20cf? You might only be able to get a 40cf on that cart where the bottle mounts.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Turbocad6 - Thanks for the kind words.  The tripod casters make sure all the wheels are in contact with my bumpy shop floor (cracked/buckling concrete).  The Maxstar is very light.  With the center of gravity being low, there is no tendency to tip.  welderShane - A 40cf will fit.  Something larger if I splice another section into the vertical piece.  I'll just have to see how often I am running out to get gas.  Miller 211 MIGMiller 375 Extreme Plasma CutterMiller Maxstar 150 STL TIGOxy-Acetylene torch
Reply:What about adding a sheet metal shroud underneath the grinder to catch the dust?  Wouldn't have to be all that big, IME, most of the tungsten dust doesn't go all that far.  Maybe it could even be removable so you could empty/store it?  Couple magnets would do.   Maybe add a kick-stand for more stability, when necessary?   I can't believe anyone uses bottles that small.  I killed most of a 130 over the weekend ( lots of stop and start ).   You definitely have your own style of cart going, though.  The accessible foot pedal storage is great.__David Hillman
Reply:Good points, Dave.  I could make a sheet metal shroud, or a quick detach, or both.  The grinder is currently mounted with three small bolts.  Yah, I know about the bottle - I bought it years ago to try something out.  Now that I have the tig, its just what I had...Miller 211 MIGMiller 375 Extreme Plasma CutterMiller Maxstar 150 STL TIGOxy-Acetylene torch
