There has been a lot of used welding equipment for sale around here lately, and I have decided to upgrade my tiny, crummy little O/A setup for something nice. My buddy is telling me to buy the Victor Journeyman if I can find one used at a good price. It will just be for hobby use, but I do want something nice with no limitations. Is the Victor Journeyman the best way to go? Is there anything comparable in case I can't find the Journeyman?Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:Are you going to be gas welding with it? I use Smith cutting torches, because all I do with them is cut and heat. I do have a practally brand new Harris for when I want to learn how to gas weld and braze. Victor is quality stuff, I prefer Smith. I see alot of great deals on ebay. Lately I picked up a Smith SC229 cutting torch, 1500 series regs, three tips and a brand new 50' x 1/4" hose for $150.00 delivered."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:The Victor 300 series torches are pretty big.If it is just for hobby the Victor 100 series can cut to 4" and take up to a #7 welding tip (either will use more fuel than I like to think about buying). It is about 2/3 the weight and length of the journeyman.Matt
Reply:Best way is to post what you are actually considering buying and for how much. Both Victor and Smith make good gear. I have both and would be content with either brand.
