Well one of my sister's friends just dropped of this trailer from Tennessee that I will be taking out to her come xmas.  Anyway this trailer was supposedly fully serviced and checked over by them only to arrive with this jack. So much for "professional". Reply:I actually flinched when I saw that...

Reply:As far as the rear goes, I have fixed a bunch of trailers that were that way by bending the steel back, or cutting off and replacing. Then add a skid plate that goes from the next further up crossmember all the way to the back. It still drags, but there is nothing to catch on.

Reply:Well I checked the paperwork and zero mention of trailer jack issue...  Just so people in TN know where not to take their trailers. Business card attached which speaks for itself.     Hopefully they did not do the welding on it but if it was my business it would not have left the shop like that.    This was a cross country deal and they were supposed to go through the trailer and fix anything that needed repair.   4 new tires and hubs/bearings, various lights were done ... Reply:One thing for sure, whoever welded it didn't have to worry about burning thru!! Reply:About 5 years ago, I had an employee who at one time had a trailer repair shop in the same area. He would talk about how bad that place was all the time. That area has a lot of horse people, who tend to have money but no common sense.
Reply:For the "weld" that was done on that, I would be more then happy to put a nice bevel on the jack and lay down a couple beads with my 110 mig.  Would be 100 times better then that.  Still not quite right but, wow. That looks like the jack should pop out if you start to take the weight off the ball."Edit" Let me reword that a bit.  I would be more then happy to use my welder and have a much better product.  However would not ever do that for myself or anyone else as it would be pushing the limits at best, and not enough welder to really do it correctly.

Reply:Actually the trailer is for a good friend of hers.  I am just the transport as we go to CA at xmas to visit family.    Anyhoo,  She did not want to put any money into it as it seems she is going to have some changes done to it so it will tow behind her truck camper so an hr labor and I made a repair of it with a 3/8 mounting plate.  Also drilled the foot to bolt on instead of welding it and straightened it.  Now it will wind up flush with the bottom of the frame instead of sticking out 3 inches which is what probably caused it to bend and break in the first place. Reply:just one problem I see is you left the bird poo on the jack and painted over it.  it would look lots nicer to have had it ground off.  other than that it looks muy more better!!
Reply:Yeah I hate grinding and left it for her to see when she gets it.  I got a while yet so it will probably annoy me enough Ill go grind it off sometime in the next week or so..  had to finish up quick as I needed to watch kids while my wife went out.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Well  I've seen and fixed some bad things but that takes the top spot. Great job on quick fix on jack. Iffen you feel froggy enough and you will fix that rear end. Fixed one recentley clean off all the junk off back end. Take piece of 4 inch pipe bolt and weld to rearend. This will let the rear of the trailer slide over stuff that tears up things. Almost as good as DOT bumper on 18 wheeler. Did this repair on 40ft featherlight thats 20something yrs old with steel and aluminum frame. Wish had pics on all this stuff now.

Reply:I wouldn't hesitate to call the trailer company and tell them what happened. Even if not to get money back, maybe it was just some idiot that did the inspection and you can prevent such a wreck from getting on the road again. It's worth a shot in my opinion.IW Local 580 NY, NYOriginally Posted by RaptorDunerWell, at least you "chromed"it. hahaha

That weld, crappy as it is, was not meant to attach the jack to the trailer. That's what the three bolts were for. This was an anti-theft measure. They wanted the potential thief to see a 'weld' bead and move on to an easier target.Obviously it was done by someone who didn't know how to weld and looks like azz. But it was there to keep someone from thinking they could just remove the bolts and steal the jack.My humble opinion of course. And maybe the pictures don't reveal something like the bolts were broken and someone tried to bird poop it to compensate for the broken bolts. I can't tell that from the pictures.PapaLincoln Idealarc 250 (circa 1962)Lincoln Weldpak 155 w/Mig KitLincoln Squarewave TIG 175
