Hey everyone .Im new to welding, well ive been at it for about 4 months building a bbq smoker. I have a factory refurbished Hobart Handler 180. Im wondering how often do i need to clean the liner and how do i do it? Ive ran probably 5 pounds of Hobart Flux core wire through it so far.ThanksLast edited by bnew17; 02-01-2013 at 08:23 AM.

Reply:I've given mine a good blast of compressed air from the gun end, then spray a good dose of anti-spatter spray, quickly followed by another blast of air. I like to place a clean paper towel at the discharge end to catch what comes out so I can see how much comes out.
Reply:I use these cleaning pads just before the wire feederThey are specially lubricated and trap any dirt or dust especially if your wire holder doesn't have a cover and your roll of wire is out in the open exposed to grinding, dust etc...I use a big 450amp Miller welder at work i must use about a large reel of 1.2mm wire a week i have only changed the liner once about 6 months ago. and that will last me best part of a year i guess, Those little pads are worth their weight in gold and you can pick them up cheapish on ebay or from your local welding supplier
Reply:That looks like a bandaid with a splint for a sore pecker!
Reply:On the job all we ever ran was Innershield, back then the Lincoln K-126 guns did not have replaceable liners, we would blow the guns out every Friday night. We used an oxygen bottle with no gauge on the bottle. Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I do similar to Gerry, only I am cheap and push the wire through an old disposable ear plug, I wear ear plugs every day so always have heaps and it costs me nuthin!Cheers Andrew

Reply:I enjoy my wire wiper first.  I use a filter from a cigarette that I just smoked, break the filter off an run the wire through it.  My wire prefers menthol filters.....
