Hey I am going to be starting a gokart build pretty soon.I am basing this around a 10hp Tecumseh horizontal snow-blower motor. My biggest concern at this point is making the motor work properly on the go kart. I have already picked up a 3/4 shaft clutch and will likely fit it for a torque converter. Here are my questions as of now for the motor: where on the motor should i attach the throttle cable, carb or lever. and what size sprocket should i run ( I'm about 230 )I am picking up the metal soon and ill have some pics, any insight or parts sites will be great i know there are some guys on here who have built some sweet karts.Thanks-DaveLast edited by dwoelper; 06-01-2011 at 11:40 AM.
Reply:When I built my go kart I spent a great deal of time on the diygokart forum:Discussion of gear ratios:http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5438Speed Calculator:http://www.diygokarts.com/speed-calculator.htmlGood luck and post some pics when you are done.Jeff
Reply:jdog: very cool links...thanks for sharing. I can't wait to start building a go kart...however, I already have 99 years worth of projects on the agenda. Maybe if I can figure out a way to work 36 hours per day?
Reply:Im 238lbs, and I built a mini chopper several years ago, with a TAV2 clutch. 5.5hp Tecumseh was pulling the front end of the ground on hard takeoffs...I already have a Subi 6hp with a new TAV2 bolted on for my sons 3 wheeled go kart, gonna use the same chopper rear tire and some tractor tires up front. Hes only 2 so I have plenty of time to build it...hahaLincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120 |
