Reply:6 years of fabricating and you didnt... fabricate your own? sorry, i couldnt resist looks like a goodie to me!
Reply:Very nice welcome to the platten club, be careful it's kinda like having a blackberry, they'll make you dumber in time, try not to forget how to fab without it. I made some clamps just like that. I posted a pic of one on the miller site after a guy ask for a platten clamp design, are you that guy?
Reply:yeah, that was me. Cutting up these old C clamps was a no brainer. I'm still toying with some ideas for telescoping clamps made from DOM tubing. Probably going to settle for and order the HD clamps from Stronghand Tools made for 1.75 platens. Ive had all the non-platen life i want. Its nice to know I'll atleast have these two tables my whole career.
Reply:I want one of those so bad.
Reply:If you don't mind us asking, what are the dimensions of your tables, and how much did they cost?I'd love to have a proper fab table but the money isn't quite there yet.
Reply:wow, i'm jealous.
Reply:I've been looking and lost out at auctions over the years. The small one is 30x60 and the large one is 5x8 feet. The small one is in as-new condition. The large one I'm getting Blanchard ground to get the dings and gouges out. Investment is 1500 and 3k respectively. I was stoked to drive to work this morning. First full day with the small table and it's soo nice to have a work surface that is square, rejects mig splatter and I can clamp internally. I don't plan to hire any employees and I can tell this is going to make me faster and very accurate. Stoked.
