This table is the first piece of furniture I've built out of metal. It's made from 16 gauge 2"x2" tube, and 1"x2" Tube.I used 3/32" 6013 at around 90amps (I'm never too sure with my selector switch)I capped the bottom of the legs with plates that have nuts welded to the inside to receive the leveling feet from an old dryer. I'm happy with that. There's no level surface anywhere in my house. (Not even my welding table)It's the first time I've welded something this thin, it's also my first attempt at a grinder art finish. I'd really like to see other examples of this, and I'd really appreciate some tips or advice on a translucent paint job. The top is just a 16" tile that I painted because I got spray on bedliner splatter on it.It just drops in the top so that it can be changed whenever the mood hits.I try to learn something from everything I design or build, so that I can do better. That's why I post here. Thanks for checking it out! Attached Images

Reply:Looks good to me, great job.
Reply:Hey H-S,Nice job. I like the finish. Your joints & corners look good. Since this is the first one, just think of how nice the next one may be & especially how much more elaborate/intricate you can make it. It can become endless.....DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:very nice!  love the finish
Reply:For a limitless array of finishes you need to google gilder's paste. It's so versatile in what you can do. The table looks very nice for your first.
Reply:When the human race nukes the entire surface of the planet, bacteria, cockroaches and that table will remain. That thing will last forever! I love the finish
Reply:That's a nice looking table. And the finish idea is cool!

Reply:I am going to hazard a guess and say he used a metal dye...but only a guess. I know my blue layout dye will look like that on metal, and you can buy it in red too at graingers ~$8 for a small bottle

Reply:I've done paint like that before.  Did the grinding and then used a high quality automotive candy coat to color the metal.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:My father, and many others of his generation (the REAL great depression children) built a crap ton of things for the home. I remember his lamp tables made from small angle and bent rounds, the tops were simple ceramic tile over plywood (50's modern).Building was actually entertainment for young married men with no money starting out. He replaced them 1960 or so with Pennsylvania House stuff, but never lost the bug to build. When he passed there was still a large unfinished 2 piece bookcase 3/4 done in the shed. I fiddle with it when I visit mom and am not in any hurry (6 years on now???).Anyway, he would be proud of your table, so should you, nicely done!Matt

Reply:Yea, that table looks good.  The red paint on the art is definitely a candy.  It's basically just transparent paint.  With a combo of finishes and paints, there are endless combos.I like to spray House of Kolor.  I have a local paint shop that sells their stuff, but there are plenty of other places as well.Check out http://houseofkolor.com/
