I've seen one once, and had to get one.  Now it's time to put it to work.  Any tips or suggestions on how to blow out a 2-1/2" pin x 20" long.  Thanks to those who reply.
Reply:Wear lots of leather... You're going to get most of that pin right back at you most likely. Only time I did something like that we punched thru the center and then blew as much out the back side as possible, opening up the hole. Neat toy, but the job sucked..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Keep the rod buried into the work with a firm push.Full-blast oxygen isn't necessary to make it work. Less pressure will help with control and to reduce the meteorite shower.2-1/2" diameter is small, and 20" is a long way to burn, it may be necessary to wash out a "drain trough" for slag run-out, while staying centered will be difficult.Be careful not to burn off course and cut through the pin's edge, thus damaging adjacent parts.Good Luck
Reply:Never used the ArcAir ST.  Have used Broco rods for both terrestrial and underwater demo projects. 100% O2 w/ a 400A circuit. Sliced through 4-6" CIP like butter. One hot ride!
Reply:I had one, never used it, sold it, end of story. They are cool though.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Watch for any thru holes, the oxygen will force the melt pool toward it possably out the side (king pins are great for that problem).Do a preliminary burn with the acetylene torch as far as you can, washing away the surface, once you get in deep the rods don't last long. That's one tool that can change you from hero to an a$$hole in a few seconds.......Mike
Reply:That is going to be very difficult to accomplish. I have used one to burn out some threaded pieces 4.5 in dia by 12 inches long. It was very hard to keep the slag running thru the hole and easy to get off center. You wont be able to wear enough leathers. INMHO
Reply:Back to subject....are you sure that's how you have to remove it?  Is it a dozer track pin or something? There hopefully is a better way.
Reply:Blake in SpokaneCan you work from both sides, and what is the pin - in?Opus

Reply:Did you ever use it on a fire truck? We run a fire district, but I can't think of a situation where I would have used it.  My memory is the one I demoed would cut through concrete, steel or just about anything. Also did it hook up to a medical O2 bottle, or does it use to much volume for that?
Reply:I can think of uses when it comes to building collapses or having to gain access to victims under roadway collapses like in the one quake in Cali. They'll usually also cut under water, though they make dedicated underwater rigs like Brocco. A lot of the cutting jobs are probably doable with a good hydro cutting pack today and the right attachments..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I used Brock and arcair underwater, both work well.

Reply:Oxylance torches!!!! Holy geezus. I watch the welders on the barges use them when we do rig removals, there like 10 ft long and will burn through a 36 inch jacket leg.
