Just getting started on a table for a first project. Decided to do the table first, since it seems to be the most important ingredent to making quality projects. Bought the metal at the scrap yard for .25 per pound. Cut out the parts and was pleased that the waste was minimal - first picture. Mostly surface rust and cleaned up easily -  picture 2. First end piece squared up and ready to weld tomorrow morning. Attached Images

Reply:Finished the frame today. First picture is getting ready to weld the stringers to connect the 2 ends. Second picture is the finished frame. I still need to add the casters, top, and some clamp hangers. Will add receivers for vice and grinder later. The table has a 1/8 wobble/rock so I am pleased that it is close to level since my fabrication equipment is lacking. Will find a piece of plate for the top this week, but will probably not have time to get it finished for 2 weeks. Attached Images
Reply:Did you hog tie that all together by yourself?  I seem to get stuck without welpers constantly. I think I need a trained octopus some days.It looks fine so far.City of L.A. Reply:What are the measurements and are you going with a solid top, or separate pieces? How thick of a top?Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:Roped and hogtied all by myself. The frame is 24x60 and I plan on a 3" overhang all the way around so the top should be 30x66. Top thickness depends on what is available at the scrap yard. I saw a piece of nearly new 1/2" but I don't know if it will be the right size. I have braces to put in the top of the frame if I need to use more than 1 piece or less than 1/2" thick.

Reply:I'm just a beginner wanting to get off of the garage floor myself. A 1/2" top would weigh 280# so the frame should be strong enough. I won't be doing anything too big so should stand up to whatever I want to do. Yes I will add levelers.

Reply:Finally got the welding table finished. The top is 3/8" 34X72 and it is that size since that was the piece at the scrap yard that came the closest to being the size I wanted. Has about 5" overhang. Put levelers at the corners, a receiver at each corner, and clamp hangers. Still coming up with other ideas for hangers for grinders, hammers, and helmets. The top is dead level on one side and has about a 1/16 to 1/32 gap on the other side according to my 8' straight edge. Close enough for any thing I will do.[ATTACH]69323[/ATTACHX] Attached Images
Reply:For what it's worth, at welding school my teachers said to never weld on concrete.  First of all it can get super hot and fracture, but secondly concrete is porous and can hold water even though you can't see it which becomes a possible electrocution hazard.  They even went as far to say that if you absolutely have to weld on concrete to put a piece of plywood between your knees and the ground because it's different than standing on the ground with rubber sole steel toes.  Just my $0.02.  Table looks good man!
Reply:Great table! I really like how you installed the levers on the sides. I am doing it the other way arround, levelers right under the legs and casters a bit on the inside. Smaller footpring when rolling but it is not going to be used as a transpalette anyway...Mikel

Reply:Went to work in a large factory that made Mobile lifts once. The roof leaked and the floor was always wet. after a couple hours my gloves were wet. Every time I had to put a new rod in, I would get shocked. Now on a welder the voltage is fairly low, somewhere around 26 volts so You could stand it but You always new that it was comeing and hated it. I only stayed there untill I got my first check.  Mac
