Just curious where folks source their rod from, I'm running low on my boxes of rod I got along with the purchase of a couple machines and looking to buy some before I actually need it. I'll probably be asking at the local welding place I deal with for my gas but since they usually have to order things anyway I'll be checking my options. I'll probably be looking to buy some RG45 rod and maybe some TIG rod for mild steel that is thicker than what I still have a lot of now (1-1/16th") and later on I'll probably be looking for some brazing rod as well as brass and copper welding rod and some SS and much later aluminum, so if the same place sold the proper flux that would be nice. Though for stainless it seems solar flux is sold most places. This place seemed to have decent prices with free shipping:http://www.prosafetysupplies.com/cat....carbon_steel/Any other sources are appreciated. Also if anyone has noticed any gas welding rod that is better or worse than the rest. Thanks!
Reply:I get it all at my local welding supply. Most of the guys behind the counter will give you a blank stare if you ask for rg45 or low-fume bronze, but they usually have it in stock whether they know they do or not.
Reply:At my LWS, I think even the truck driver needs to know enough about welding and supplies to be able to answer any ordinary question. You didn't post where you are in your profile (click 'User CP" in the upper left to find that) but I doubt you are near me, so my LWS is probably a bit far from you.
Reply:From my "local", as well.Once in a while I'll see something on Craig's List, like 2lb spools of aluminum or stainless MIG wire for $5 each......if it's name brand, I'm on it!Rex
Reply:I buy local. Any welding shop worth their salt will stock at least 1/16, 3/32 and 1/8 filler in 4043, 5356, 70S-2, 308L and 316L flavors. If they don't, they're not serving their customers very well.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Most counter guys are stupid. You should tell them what you want, not let them, try to tell you. JGSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :

Reply:I go here..http://local.yahoo.com/info-10283977...ies-plainvilleThese guys know exactly what they are talking about......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I can't afford to buy filler from my Local Welding supply. In fact, I probably will never again set foot in the LWS that's about 2 miles from here. I drive a few towns over to get my gas, as they don't go nuts on price there, but they still drive filler metal and tungstens through the roof.I've been getting my filler metal from weldingsupply.com. I get their house brand, but I have not had the first problem with it. Could be I've lucked out and gotten better batches, but until something changes, I'll continue getting it. Their website is a bit hard to navigate, but their prices are the best that I've found (not to say someone doesn't have it lower). For tungstens and consumables, it is off to Ebay. I've been getting HTP tungstens from the welders4less ebay store. http://stores.ebay.com/welders4lessI've gotten HTP aluminum filler metal from there for fairly good prices, but I don't like that all of theirs comes precut to 18 inch lengths. I like to keep my rods a full 36" most of the time, to limit stub loss. When you combine shipping on multiple rod orders as well as consumables and tungstens, they usually have relatively good prices.Who is John Galt?
Reply:Thanks for the feedback! I got a few pounds of rg45 from the local shop, already need more of the skinny stuff. I was looking for alternatives just in case.
Reply:Pedal, I buy from Cyberweld and Welding supplies at Indiana Oxygen Co via the internet and both have fairly good prices, and offer free shipping on larger orders ($20-30). I just got some Al filler in both flavors in 1/16 and 3/32 for a fair price last week. I read a post last week about prices going up unexpectedly, so if it is true you might want to stock accordingly. Glad your here and welcome.I'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys? Trade?
